He was a 15-year-old second behind Blažimir Kovačević at the IM tournament First Saturday Tournament in May 1999. For the Serbian national team, he played in the Chess Olympiads in 2004, 2006, 2010, 2012 and 2014 and the European Team Championships 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2015. In February 2015, it is ranked No. three of Serbian ranking. He is in Serbia Member of Novi Sad Chess club, but once played for the BSK Gambit. In Austria it was reported from 2005 to 2011 in Styria Graz, but was only in the seasons 2005/06 (in which he was an Austrian team champion) and 2006/07 for use. In the 2012/13 season was Robert Markuš Austrian with Sparkasse Jenbach team champion. In Croatia, he plays for the Šk Liburnija Rijeka. In Hungary he played from 1999 to 2007 for Statisztika PSC and since 2007 for the Aquaprofit Nagykanizsai Tungsram Sakk club with which he was in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 Hungarian team champion. In the German chess Bundesliga since the 2014/15 season he plays for the SC Hansa Dortmund. In the Bosnian Premijer Liga, he played from 2003 to 2006 for the ŠK Panteri Bijeljina, 2008 and 2009 for the ŠK Slavija Istočno Sarajevo and 2012 for the ŠK Bosna Sarajevo. In the Netherlands Meesterklasse Markuš plays in the season 2015/16 for Charlois Europoort. He is married to the chess player Ana Srebrnič.
